GIVING KIDS AN ACADEMIC ADVANTAGE THROUGH MUSIC
Whether it’s budget cuts in our schools, coming from a broken home or a low income family, many children today lack the means and opportunity of getting a proper music education. Now they can! Through your generous donation, Stagelight’s “Sponsor a Child Program” gives children in our community a quality music education through lessons on the instrument of their choice, by the area’s best instructors.
Facts about music education:
Research has shown that exposure to the arts goes beyond developing creativity. Americans for the Arts Association and the National School Boards Association recently issued facts that show children who consistently participate in comprehensive and rigorous arts programs are:
• Four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement.
• Three times more likely to be elected to class office within their school.
• Four times more likely to participate in a math and science fair.
• Three times more likely to win an award for school attendance.
• Four times more likely to win an award for writing an essay or poem.
Who is “Sponsor a Child Program” for?
Stagelights offers after music lessons and mentor-based music activities for Curry County children ages 8 to 17. In keeping with Stagelights’ commitment to provide music opportunities for all, our “Sponsor a Child Program” offers tuition assistance to students who are otherwise unable to pay the full amount. Stagelights is the only after school music program in the area in which children benefit from music instruction and positive adult relationships. Our lesson program connects children who are interested in music with adults who are passionate about it. Lessons are conducted in a clean, safe environment at the Stagelights Club House, 16333 Lower Harbor Rd. at the Port of Brookings Harbor. Stagelights and its music programs are funded entirely by local sponsors, private donations, numerous fundraisers, and through our own efforts to obtain public and private grants.
Stagelights’ youth tuition is $50 or $60 for five and six weekly introduction lessons. While $10 per week doesn’t seem like a lot of money for some people, it is for the thousands of low-income students in our community.Your donation to the “Sponsor a Child Program” will help many of these students receive scholarships, lesson discounts and free instruments.
Cost for one child’s tuition is $60 per month or $720 per year.
